Here is a partial discography of some lesser known Spector-influenced recordings along with a couple of my choices. Phil was serving his time in a correctional facility in Stockton, California when he contracted Covid passing away on January 16th, 2021. In 1974 Phil co-founded a record label with Warner – “Warner Spector” records featuring Cher, Darlene Love, Dion, Ronnie Spector and Nilsson among other – The label lasted until early 1977 with around 10 singles released before folding. Phil would start up his own label in 1964 – Phil Spector Records – Only Ronnie Spector and also the Treasures (Bonnie and the Treasures) would have releases on this label. In the early 1960’s after his work with the Teddy Bears, Spector was called in to work with many musicians as a producer and no doubt honed his future studio skills and his coming sound. Spector – for all of his glory days at Philles Records, equaled or surpassed his success there post Philles days placing monster compositions on the nation’s charts by a very diverse group of musicians. His legal battle would drag on with a mistrial – A verdict would finally be delivered in April of 2009 – a 19-years-to-life sentence resulted. He shot and killed actress Lana Clarkson. I always liked the Crystal’s “There’s No Other” – It had that same late 50’s feel to it – the great harmony – before the Wall was built!Īfter a whirlwind career with many highlights – all would fall apart in February of 2003 when Phil crossed over the boundaries of his history of abuse.
