I let my guard down and then you pulled the rug With this first verse being so nebulous, this song doesn’t start out very good, but luckily, there is a huge jump in quality in the chorus.Īnd you’re not here to get me through it all It does try to set up the topic and themes of the song, but I really did not understand what this song was trying to convey until the chorus and second verse. The lyrics in this verse are incredibly vague, and while the whole song is somewhat lyrically vague to let the listener project themselves onto the singer, the lyrics in this verse border on sounding obscure. This is the first verse of the song, and honestly, it did not do a good job of captivating me. I guess I kinda liked the way you numbed all the pain”

I need somebody to heal, somebody to know This all or nothing really got a way of driving me crazy “ I’m going under, and this time, I fear there’s no one to save me So, seeing an obscure British Indie artist hit the Top 40 with this track intrigued me, and with it being the primary contender for this year’s “Indie Sweepstakes”, I say we take a look at this song and see if Lewis is worth checking out in the future (because I doubt he’ll get another hit, so I’ll have to keep tabs on him if I REALLY like this song). All of these songs I have listed are songs I love, and they introduced me to artists that I listen to to this day. Popular “winners” of this sweepstakes in the past have been “Take Me To Church” by Hozier, “Pompeii” by Bastille (even though they technically got another hit with Marshmello), and “Riptide” by Vance Joy. Now, almost every year for the past decade or so, there has been one song by a relatively unknown artist/band that falls more into the indie-alternative category that blows up and becomes a huge single for said artist/band (coined by popular music critic Todd In The Shadows as the “Fluke Indie Hit Sweepstakes). I have reviewed a lot of songs recently that happened to be a certain artist’s first hit (such as “ Truth Hurts“and “ Ransom“), so let’s keep the ball rolling with this new song “ Someone You Loved“.
